"Take your time...don't grow up too fast...enjoy life as long as you can before you settle down...see and experience the world...don't be so quick run off and get married...enjoy singleness, play around, taste the goodness..." And then once you do get married..."don't rush into having kids, kids are expensive so make sure you have a good job and are financially set, buy a home first, enjoy your marriage a while (which is funny because once a couple is married and having issues, mind you, issues WITHOUT CHILDREN, they end up having children thinking that it will bring them closer??? So which is it people...don't have children or do have children??? Issues come no matter what...THAT'S MARRIAGE! And it's not a bad thing!
Interesting article... What Is It About 20-Somethings?http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/22/magazine/22Adulthood-t.html?_r=2
"Among the cultural changes he points to that have led to “emerging adulthood” are the need for more education to survive in an information-based economy; fewer entry-level jobs even after all that schooling; young people feeling less rush to marry because of the general acceptance of premarital sex, cohabitation and birth control; and young women feeling less rush to have babies given their wide range of career options and their access to assisted reproductive technology if they delay pregnancy beyond their most fertile years. "
"Is emerging adulthood a rich and varied period for self-discovery, as Arnett says it is? Or is it just another term for self-indulgence? "
Definitely a good topic to be discussed. The questions is...what does the bible have to say about this?
And please don't misunderstand me. No, I don't think everyone needs to be married at the age of 18 and have 20 babies. If you know me, you know my opinion... God is sovereign over all of that!
The question I am aiming at is...How does the bible define an adult and at what age are we considered and adult?
A really great sermon on this topic...
He starts right in on the young adulthood thing at 43:40 but of course I encourage listening to the whole thing :) especially if you have little ones!
Trials teach us what we are; they dig up the soil, and let us see what we are made of. ~Charles Spurgeon

John MacArthur
"Christian psychology" as the term is used today is an oxymoron. The word "psychology" no longer speaks of studying the souls instead it describes a diverse menagerie of therapies and theories that are fundamentally humanistic. The presuppositions and most of the doctrine of psychology cannot be successfully integrated with Christian truth. Moreover, the infusion of psychology into the teaching of the church has blurred the line between behavior modification and sanctification...If one is a truly Christian psychologist, he must be doing soul work in the realm of the deep things of the Word and spirit- not fooling around in the shallows of behavior modification... There may be no more serious threat to the life of the church today than the stampede to embrace the doctrines of secular psychology. They are a mass of human ideas that Satan has placed in the church as if they were powerful, life-changing truths from God. Most psychologists epitomize neo-Gnosticism, claiming to have secret knowledge for solving people's real problems. There are even those psychologists who claim to perform a therapeutic technique they call "Christian counseling" but in reality are using secular theory to treat spiritual problems with biblical references tacked on. ~John MacArthur

Somthing to Think About
Can't view video...GO HERE
I grew up in the youth
Most will defend the youth
And just to put this out there...this is not to slam the teachers out there. I know a lot of great youth teachers out there who have great intentions and a heart for the youth.
I know it is a very tough subject especially in this culture. Listen to the research, it is surprising.
Go right to the 3rd Video, he immediately starts the video on this topic. All three are recommended though!

So good...Had to pass it along.

He has many more great writings HERE you can check out. Unfortunately though, he is going to be shutting down his blog very soon and will be going a new direction. I am not sure if we will still be able to link to these writings (I am hoping so).
I am happy for him and his new direction and have no doubt it will bring glory and honor to our King. I will always be eternally grateful for the wisdom his blog brought to me in a time I was seeking truth.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and upbraides not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5

“Well-behaved women rarely make history.” What???
Have you seen these bumper stickers or signs around? At first I chuckled and then my chuckle turned into a "whatever!!!" (insert attitude). I know this is just more feminist culture stuff...the funny thing is, I wouldn't categorized myself as well behaved. Maybe to the person (who is of the world) who made up this saying, would consider me "well-behaved" LOL!!! (seriously funny...well-behaved and me in the same sentence. I've just never seen it before. I know my family is laughing right now.)
Well regardless of whether I am well behaved or not, I begged a differ on the history part. Each morning I wake up, I am making history. If I am to raise up godly children to send out into the world, I would like to think that counts for making history. Whatever is taught here in my home will forever be imprinted upon their little hearts to affect the world with either good or evil.
We have all seen generations destroyed due to some pretty bad choices. We have also seen amazing generations rise up due to some "well-behaved" behavior. The spiritual tone you set does make a difference.
Either way though...you will make history.
A wise woman builds her home, But the foolish woman tears it down with her own hands. Prov. 14:1
As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. Psalms 127:4&5
BTW...I was wondering who wrote this and this is what I found...
Writing an article about little-studied Puritan funeral services, Ulrich included the phrase "well-behaved women seldom make history." The phrase was picked up and soon was widely quoted and printed across the country. Laurel Thatcher Ulrich self-identifies as an active Feminist and Mormon, and has written with great insight about her experiences.

Ecclesiastical corpses lie all about us, the casket in which they repose are lined with satin and are decorated with solid silver handles and abundant with flowers. Like the other caskets, they are just large enough for their occupancy with no room for converts. These churches have died of respectability and have been embalmed with self complacency. If by the grace of God your church is alive, be warned to our opportunity or the feet of them that buried thy sisters will be at the door to carry thee out as well. ~ Dr. AJ Gordon to the spiritually dead churches
Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent, and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lamp-stand out of it's place- unless you repent. Revelations 2:5

It's all about Family
Dawn recently posted this article on her blog. Good and convicting. It's a great site, I visit often.
The article made me think of this...
and then I came across this quote...
"You cannot control your children, you say.
Then the Lord have mercy on you!
It is your business to do it,
and you must do it,
or else you will soon find they will control you.
No one knows what judgment
will come from God
upon those who allow
sin in children
to go
unrebuked."
~ C.H. Spurgeon
(Ouch)
Which made me think of this...
If you are not familiar with family worship here is a great guide for that. Of course Voddies book, Family Driven Faith, is always a great option!!!

A Friend and I were just saying....
Imagine if women.....did laundry together, cooked together, cleaned together, taught their children together, fellowshiped together, prayed together, read scripture together, and learned from each other. What if we encouraged each other to love our husbands, to love our children, to love thy neighbor. What if we didn't gossip, and we thought the best of each other, spoke truth to each other, and trusted each other.......

No nation has ever made any progress in a downward direction. No people ever became great by lowering their standards. No people ever became good by adopting a looser morality. It is not progress when the moral tone is lower than it was. It is not progress when purity is not as sweet. It is not progress when womanhood has lost its fragrance. Whatever else it is, it is not progress! ~Author unknown

A Good Reminder From Paul:
"Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled (DAWN!!!), they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry ." 2 Timothy 4: 2-5
This verse means more to me today then ever before. Proof it is the living word and God is always revealing.
In the past couple of years I have been going through some major reproofing and rebuking. (Reproof uses God's Word to unveil sin. Rebuke is the Holy Spirit's convicting work through His Word.)
I confess I was mediocre, luke warm, middle of the road, and that was acceptable to me. I also confess the fact that I could not tell you what sound doctrine was, boy was I blind. I allowed my ears to be tickled a lot (as John MaCathur puts it so well "They prefer to be entertained by teachings that produce pleasant sensations and leave them with a good feeling. They have an itch to get their ears tickled by nice stories, positive thinking, and a little psychology. However, the gospel doesn't tickle the ears--it boxes them! God's Word brings reproof, rebuke, and conviction of sin"). God also revealed how much of a feminist beast I was (opposite of a biblical marriage) and wow, this has been a big one for me!! (worthy of another post). I also regret the fact that I would not face hardship in a godly manor. I either dealt with it in my own strength or would avoid it, which resulted in not gaining the good that comes from hardship. I missed out on those blessings.
I look back in my past and say WHOA! And if the past doesn't make you say whoa, something is wrong. I grieve my past but I am thankful for the wisdom it has brought.
I will always be going through reproofing and rebuking. I now look forward to the growth and blessings it will bring.... I feel as if I am more hopeful for my future.
